the chronicles of narnia

Just finished reading the full series of books in the “Chronicles of Narnia” set by C.S. Lewis. Been working on it for awhile off and on. Great series!! I never read all the books when I was younger, so this was a first for me. The book I have has you read the books in chronological order according to Narnia Timelime as opposed to the order of publishing release.
My favorites in the series were of course “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” (a classic and fun) and “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (enjoyed it’s portrals of a variety of myserterious lands and characters). Favorite character: Reepicheep (both fun character and fun name to say).
Great books, Excellent series, amazingly talented author to come up with these lands. I’m sure I will pick this series up again to read soon. A definite must read for anyone.

mastering the art of french cooking

Searching for the right cookbook is such a hard task sometimes. Been on the hunt for awhile. And while I’m still on the hunt for a good creole cookbook after having come back from New Orleans, picked up Julia Child’s, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, today to start the cookbook collection. Loved watching Julia cook on her TV show when I was younger and the food looked great. Can’t wait to start cooking recipes from the book!
banana bread

Woke up this morning and decided to make banana bread. Haven’t made it in a LONG time, but when I do it’s always soooo good. As you can see, I couldn’t even wait until it cooled down before trying to cut into it and grab a corner bite. Can’t wait to devour it. yum…
the recipe will remain secret for now….:)

#52 with a twist

Tried simple salad #52 from the 101 simple salad list that I mentioned in an earlier post “101 salads”, but I made a modification. I basically just made my usual egg salad recipe that I make to taste (so no measuring really) with hard boiled egg, mayo, paprika, garlic powder, sea salt, and pepper. Spooned this salad mix into the endive leaves. It was simply delicious and appetizing. Afterwords I stumbled upon this other recipe for an endive salad with blue cheese, candied pecans, and a dijon vinaigrette that looked and sounded delicious. Will report back when I give it a try. My new love is the endive. Light and crisp. yum…

bon appétit!

Classic Julia Child (above). What an awesome woman who knew how to make cooking fun. Just saw “Julie & Julia” and thought it was a really fun movie, but I definitely would have been happy if it was just all about Julia Child because she’s soo great. Not to Meryl Streep (below) as Julia Child was amazing! When they would flip to more modern day Queen’s apt of Julie, it made me want to see more Julia. Is it time for me to purchase one of Julia’s cookbooks and give the recipes a try? I wouldn’t be opposed to it at all.

kefi

One of my favorite Greek restaurants. It is located in the Upper Weset Side. A must have appetizer is the pita with 4 spreads shown above. It is sooo tasty. Warm pita with 4 spreads–tzatziki, eggplant, caviar, & chickpea with sundried tomato–is my favorite appetizer. Entrees that are also good there are: Grilled swordfish; Pan seared striped bass; Sheep’s milk ravioli with brown butter and sage (MY FAVE!); Flat pasted with pulled braised rabbit and graviera cheese.
Usually have dinner there which is delicious, but had brunch there today with Jeff, Laura, and Justin today and it was scrumptious! I had the French toast which is a given since I LOVE French Toast and am determined to try the French Toast at all my favorite restaurants. The pancakes were very tasty too with the lemon zest infused flavor as well as the Eggs Benedict. All these are worth trying for brunch.

Phew! All done moving into my new apartment. I LOVE MY NEW PLACE!!! Sooo tired from moving, but sooo glad it’s finished! Now to get unpacked and organized. Cable guy came on time today too which is a plus and now I’m connected to the net again. Been off the blog for awhile due to the packing, cleaning, and moving, but now I’m back. Off to enjoy my pancakes…
