Funky & awesomely retro.  The Melissa brand shoes, Peace Wedge, is a Vivienne Westwood Collaboration.  It’s recent gift that I received and now has a home in my shoe collection.  Can’t wait to wear them out.  Plastic shoe collection up to 2 now…

Discovered the James Coviello Store one day and found it pretty fantastic!  Love the graphic prints as well as the vintage, steam punk graphics of the logo.  Will have to go back.

olly oxen free vintage

Just went to the opening of the Olly Oxen Free Vintage Store on Sunday. Owner Suzanne Palmer has opened a great little Vintage store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I found out about it through Kelly (pictured standing at the storefront). There’s a great selection of vintage women and men’s clothing as well as accessories, shoes, jewelry, records, books, and other miscellaneous items. There’s a 1960-70’s vibe to most of the clothing. There is even a rack of hand inked patterned clothing from India in 1971, never work. Fun, colorful, retro prints. Bohemian and mod. You’re bound to find something and best of all it’s really affordable. I love vintage stores, but they are definitely a strain on the pocketbook. Here, I felt you are bound to find something great at every price range! Kelly and I both walked out with great pieces (she’s modeling her’s above).

Olly Oxen Free also holds a donations based yoga class on Tuesdays from 7p-8:15p. Also on slate for extracurricular activities are film screenings and workshops. Really great idea to make a retail space in to a community gathering point. I’m all for that.

Check it out next time you are in the area. It’s off the Montrose stop on the L train.

M – closed
T – 1p-6p (Yoga 7p-8:15)
W-S – 12p-8p
SUN – 2p-8p

Equally as amazing as their similar black leather skirt is this gold leather one by Balmain.  Wish List item.

Definitely hot!  Leather skirt with a lace like pattern studded with Swarovski crystal by Balmain spotted in the window of Barney’s on 5th Ave while I walked to a job site today.

uniqlo + orla kiely

A happy find. Across the street from a project I’m working on is the Uniqlo Flagship store on 5th Ave. Orla Kiely is collaborating with Uniqlo on a special line. I snagged a few tops in the patterns above. Just because spring’s not here yet doesn’t mean I can’t dress bright like it is.

mini project: sunburst alpaca wool hat

Just completed crocheting this new oh-s0-soft hat made of tan baby alpaca wool.  I love the sunburst ribbing pattern.  It’s light enough that you would wear it in winter or spring.  Made with love as a bday gift for a good friend to give.

Currently also available at the nummynims ETSY store.   If you love it as much as I do,  check it out.

My new sandals I received in my swag bag from the opening party of the Melissa shoes store in SOHO. Way to kick off Fashion Week! This is my first pair. Can’t wait to try them once sandal weather comes in.

dye my shoes

Really fun display of Oxfords at the Cole Haan store in SOHO currently. I would like to imagine the dying process to be the same as dying Easter eggs because that sounds more wonderful in my mind.

mini project: braided headband

Just finished knitting this chunky braided headband.  It was an experiment in doing a cable knit which is new for me.  I’m not always in a beanie mood.  So this is a nice alternative.  Keeps the ears and head warm on chilly days.  Used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick.

Also available at my ETSY store if you like it!  Check it out HERE.

mini project: crochet ring

My most recent creation is this floral motif ring.  It’s crocheted with a deep, wine colored yarn that has black shiny thread intertwined to give it a sparkle.  It was fun making a little piece of jewelry to dress up the outfit.

If you are interested in one of your own, they are available for purchase at the nummymins ETSY store online!  Thanks for the support.

couch potato??

I can’t help but show this awesome excerpt of a “couch potato” costume made with Marimekko fabrics! As featured in the book, “Surrur” (cover as shown). Book is on display currently at the Marimekko Flagship store at Madison Square Park next to Eataly.

Next Halloween perhaps???

famous frocks

Embarking on new adventures! Just purchased this book, “Famous Frocks: Patterns and Instructions for Recreating Fabulous Iconic Dresses” by Sara Alm & Hannah McDevitt. I just bought a sewing machine to learn how to make my own clothes as well doing some artistic material explorations if the machine can handle it. I’ve never made my own clothes before, but this book seems perfect. The are dresses from the 1930’s-1980’s I believe. Seeing some patterns for Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy, Jackie O, Diana Ross and more. Perfectly matched to my love of the retro and dresses. Ready to design!

subway dance & fashion series

The Ensemble (from bottom to top): Yohji Yamamoto high tops; blue jeans; (2) fur tails; iPhone with monster body case; muslin blazer with slashes; Kidrobot backpack; urbanears headphones (or similar); beanie with Pom Pom; and wrist full of bracelets all while dancing the wait away.

This is an awesome collection he’s got on and I only got the back view! I couldn’t resist documenting. Dancing was a plus!
