autumn in bloom

Beautiful day in the city yesterday.  The edge of Central Park was looking amazing in shades of orange. A great way to start the holiday.

Have a Happy Turkey Day today feasting with friends and family!

A happy find. An image of an old sketch done in Central Park of Belvedere Castle from across the Turtle pond. Can’t wait till the weather gets nice enough again to sit out and do more sketching.

shakespeare in the park 2010

Merchant of Venice (Al Pacino is starring in it this year!) and Winter’s Tale are on the schedule this year.  Gonna brave the early morning line up with the gang in Central Park to get the limited free tickets for Saturday’s show (Merchant of Venice).  Wish us luck!  Check out the schedule this year.

snowmen, snow, & dogs of central park

Didn’t get around to making snowmen yesterday at Central Park, but here’s some from people who did.  I especially like the first one that looks like it has a paper sailor hat and hearts for hands.  I guess it’s in honor of Valentine’s Day…lol.

Loved this white dog that was out there.  It was having lots of fun in the snow.

Action shot.  A game of chase.

A view of the half domed stage in the distance

Sheep’s Meadow looks a little different in the winter without all the sunbathers and picnic people hanging out.

central park snow walk

Took a walk to Central Park to check out the snow action there.  The Natural History Museum (above) is looking really pretty with the snow cover on the ground.  Any time I see fresh snow I can’t resist putting a nice new footprint in it!

These guys looks like Santa Claus with the snow.

It was cute to watch this little boy get pulled down the hill by his dad.  I wish i had a sled! I just used my butt instead to slide down a few small hills.  Just as enjoyable.

The Gazebo by the lake is looking especially pretty today.

Slid down one face of this giant boulder covered in snow.  Fun stuff.

Thin Ice!  Guess I shouldn’t be Nordic skiing across then.

The ducks and birds decided to do a little ice skating of their own.

Really fun watching these kids sled down the hillside. Some were better than others at it. haha.

View of the lake next to Lasker Rink.  Mini iceberg in the foreground!!

Last week I went up to the top of Central Park for the first time to go ice skating at Lasker Rink.  Typically I go to Bryant Park to ice skate because it is free if you have ice skates (which I do), but the line is always so long on the weekends with the Times Square/Holiday Market crowds.  Especially since last weekend was a holiday weekend it was worse.  Decided to try Lasker Rink instead.  It’s one of the 2 outdoor ice rinks in Central Park–the other being the more famous Wollman rink that you see in movies all the time.  Lasker is cheaper than Wollman and definitely less crowded than Bryant Park.  Definitely a lot more fun to skate when you don’t feel like you are trapped in a sardine can.  Now that I’ve tried ice skating at Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, and Lasker Rink, I guess Wollman is the last one I need to try of outdoor ice rinks in Manhattan.

Lasker is right off the 110st stop on the 1,2,3 train

twelfth night_a day in the park

Shakespeare in park_line

First really beautiful weekend in awhile, so I decided to take advantage of it and try and see Shakespeare in the Park’s showing of “Twelfth Night”.  Most of the shows have had to go on with light rain and chilly weather this June which is unfortunate, but not this past Sunday!!  As I mentioned in my earlier post about Shakespeare in the Park, it takes place in Delacorte Theater in Central Park and the tickets are free.  You can try and win limited tickets online, but really if you are up to it you should jut wait in line.  People start lining up at 6am in the morning and tickets are given out at 1pm at the theater.  You really want to get a spot in line at 6-6:30am if you want to get tickets for sure.  I know this sounds a little intense, but sooooo many people do it.  As you can see above the line gets really long since people are vying for about 1000+ tickets or more.  It’s really not that bad.  I had a really fun time!  On a beautiful day, it’s just relaxing to spend a nice morning in the park.   People get really into it and they bring lawn chairs, blankets, pillows, tables, board games, cards, computers, and books, etc to keep themselves and friends entertained.  People watching and dog watching is fun too.  I did alot of that.  And took a little nap. 🙂

My waiting in line kit included: blanket, pillow, The Chronicles of Narnia (all of them in one book), sour patch kids, chips and guacamole, strawberry jam, bread, water, and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist DVD to watch on a little dvd player.

The show was excellent and had great seats.  The case included film and TV stars Anne Hathaway and Audra McDonald, and a VERY VERY talented cast of broadway and stage performers who did an amazing job.  The play was soo funny, the characters and actors were great, and the music was very fun and well sung by the actors.  Highly recommend going if you can!  I believe it’s only on for another week!  The next play of the summer will be “The Bacchae”  when “Twelfth Night” ends and later this fall Shakespeare’s “Othello” (with possibly Phillip Seymour Hoffman starring in it) will be put on at one of the PUBLIC theater’s other locations (Othello’s tickets may not be free however).  Can’t wait!

shakespeare in the park

While in Central Park today, I remembered that “Shakespeare in the Park” is starting up again in June.  Excited because Anne Hathaway is in the cast this year performing as Viola from “Twelfth Night”.  Other famous stars who have performed there in the past include, Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, and Christopher Walken, to name a few.

The free performances are at Delacorte Theater in Central Park.  Free tickets are given out there at 1pm on the day of every performance.  People wait as early as 6am for the tickets since they go fast.  That’s kind of hard core, but then again the tickets are free.  I’ll have to make sure to go this year because I still haven’t been yet since moving to NYC.  “Twelfth Night” runs from June 10-July 12, 2009.

a day in the sun…

It was a beautiful sunny day today.  Awesome start to Memorial Day weekend and I definitely took advantage of it by spending it outside.

shake shack UWS

After the gym this morning I headed up a few blocks to the Shake Shack in the Upper West Side (above).  Yea I know…gym plus shackburger doesn’t quite add up to healthy, but it sounded sooo good..haha.

Museum of Natural History

Took my shake shack to go and walked towards one of my favorite museums–The Museum of Natural History (above)–across from Central Park.
