fight swine flu with…a gas mask?

Found this video really entertaining and kinda ridiculous.  I get the overwhelming concern about swine flu, but I think using a gas mask is a little excessive.  This woman would disagree however. 

Things to notice:
(1)   Her continuous emphasis on the fact that the paper surgical masks are not protecting you because they aren’t touching your face on the sides
(2)  There are apparently only 5 masks left so you better get on that!
(3)  She loves the Amazon plastic packing pillows over peanuts
(4) and for all you visual people out there she holds up the model number of the mask for you to see but it’s backwards (a mirror image).

A new use for your old champagne bottle boxes that are lying around…make a lamp!  Champagne brand, Veuve Clicquot, held and exhibition in Milan called “Out of The Box“.  Designer, Tox Dixon, created the “Comet Lamp” out of Veuve Clicquot boxes for the show.

For all of you guys who don’t get enough of Photoshop or InDesign at work…you can now buy pillows in the shape of Adobe Creative Suite graphic logos.  You can buy them at this site, mysuitestuff, for $15 dollars (not including shipping).  Found the article originally on unpluggd and thought the pillows were pretty amusing…haha.

I LOVE DOMO!!!  Seeing the domo-inspired swine flu mask from the last post made me want to dedicate a post to domo. 

Domo (or “Domo kun”) is a Japanese cartoon character and is the mascot of Japan’s NHK television station.  He is described as a “strange creature that hatched from an egg” and lives underground with a rabbit, Mr. Usagi (or Usagii) and 2 cave bats.  Tashanna is a female yellow weasel who hangs out with them as well.  He always has his mouth wide open, but I have no idea why??  He’s pretty cool regardless.  You can check out some of his cartoons on YouTube both English-dubbed and in Japanese.  I thought that this Domo vs. Mr. Usagi clip was really funny.

With the swine flu scare spreading like crazy, people are starting to take their precautions.  Some are keeping the germs away (or maybe from spreading germs as well) by wearing a surgical mask which I’ve definitely started seeing on the subway.  Designer Irina Block has come up with these fun designs for surgical masks in lieu of the current scare and is selling a limited amount for $10 a piece with the proceeds going to Children International to help Mexico fight the swine flu.
