Congratulations to Peter Zumthor for winning the Pritzker Prize this year! Therme Vals is my favorite of his projects and I hope to go there one day. It is a hotel/spa complex in Vals, Switzerland and is built over the only thermal springs in the Graubünden canton in Switzerland. The building is constructed from locally quarried Valser quarzite slabs.

biodegradable moss carpet

Japan-based flower artist Makoto Azuma collaborated with Unitika Ltd. to create an indoor glade at the 2009 Milan Furniture Fair that is a completely biodegradable system. The planter portion of this moss carpet system is made from plant-derived polylactic acid fiber that decomposes in 10 years leaving only CO2 and water that will be absorbed by plants in the end. Very cool and very earth conscious. Original article from Inhabitat.
Really into Stephen Chow’s movies lately. CJ7 (seen above) is a little alien dog from his movie of the same name. It’s his first kids’ movie and it’s pretty cute. Also rewatched “Shaolin Soccer” and “Kung Fu Hustle”. Love his slapstick humor mixed with kung fu and the fact that he stars in the movies he directs also is pretty cool.

On the cutesey handicraft side of things, here’s some cute crocheted cha siu bao (aka. bbq pork buns) Kristin found. The Toki Cafe sells them along with other crocheted foods like dim sum and sushi on Etsy. (Etsy is an online site offering the buying and selling all handmade things)
