giant knit rug 01

Christien Meindertsma knit these giant rugs with wool from a sustainable sheep ranch.  Each hexagon swatch below represent the yield of one sheep.  This is part of the Design for a Living World exhibit at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in NYC which is showcasing products made using sustainable materials from around the world.

I need giant knitting needles like hers!….

I unfortunately did not knit this. The artist, Christien Meindertsma, did. She made her own yarn and needles for this project. Good luck though on your quest to recreate this rug!
